LORDSHIP DIRECTORY BY THE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT

August 25, 1950: LORDSHIP VOLS TO GIVE DIRECTORY TO ALL BUT: Members of the Lordship Volunteer Fire Department need funds. They make no bones about this. But they are not going to go around with their hands out. They are going to every home in Lordship with a free copy of their just compiled and published directory of Lordship which shows where everybody lives and what everyones phone number is and the directory if chock-full of a lot more information of value to the people of Lordship. The directory is free, but the Vols would appreciate a contribution. And why to they need the money? Harold Bishop of Spruce Street, told the Stratford News: We need the money in order to carry on our services to the people of this area. The services are fire fighting, our Memorial Day exercises and the publication of the present directory. We receive no money from the Town for any of these activities. It takes about $85 to make a firemen, complete with uniform and all. Right now we have a shortage of four firemen. And that is why we have published this directory and why we are going to take it to every home in Lordship. Regardless of whether or not we receive a contribution, every home will be given a directory. Because of our desperate need for funds to serve them, however we sincerely trust that the people of Lordship will be generous in their contributions.

August 17, 1951 - LORDSHIP FIREMEN TO DISTRIBUTE 1951 -52 AREA DIRECTORY SUNDAY: The second annual Lordship directory, sponsored by the. Lordship Volunteer Fire Company will be distributed in the Long and Short Beach areas of Lordship Sunday, the directory committee has announced. Distribution of the books to the houses in Lordship proper will be made by sections throughout the evening hours of the following week. There will be no charge for the directories which contain names, addresses, telephone numbers as well as a history of the Lordship area and its business houses and other information pertinent to those residing in the district. Contributions received at the time of delivery of the directory will he used as in past years for the Christmas party. Memorial Day exercises and other civic events sponsored by the fire company.
